Climate Change and Access to Markets in Mozambique
If rural poverty is to be reduced , smallholder producers in Mozambique will require better access to high-value agriculture markets. At the same time, they will need to overcome emerging challenges to production posed by climate change. Developing effective policy options requires an understanding of climate change in Mozambique and of the policymaking environment, especially of the ability of key organizations to formulate and implement policy.
A preliminary assessment was undertaken to examine the policy environment and architecture of organizations involved in the formulation and guidance of policies related to climate change and market access in Mozambique. On August 17, 2011, a workshop will be held in Maputo to examine preliminary findings of this assessment and to determine the way forward for future research. Sessions will discuss such topics as Smallholder Market Challenges and Implications and Perspectives of Contract Farming.
